Sylvan G. Ressler, 69, of Leola, went to be with his Lord after passing away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, January 7, 2016. He was the loving husband of Nancy J. (Nolt) Ressler.
Born on Sept. 8, 1946 in Ephrata, he was a son of Alma J. (Martin) Ressler and the late Martin E. Ressler. He was a member of Nickel Mines Mennonite Church and worked at Fisher & Thompson as an agricultural salesman for 23 years. Sylvan had a gift and love for music. He enjoyed singing with various choruses over the years and was a leader and promoter of acapella hymn singing in church life.
In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by four children: Jeffrey G. Ressler, husband of Christine, of Gap, Larry Ressler, husband of Lisa, of Brownstown, Wesley K. Ressler, husband of Alice, of Ephrata, and Cheryl J. Ressler of Leola; 4 siblings: Marian Yoder, wife of Keith, of Leola, Marilyn Kreider, wife of Leonard, of Elizabethtown, Christine Rohlf, wife of William, of Lancaster, and Merle Ressler, husband of Rosene, of New Holland; and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Cletus Ressler, husband of Nancy, of Leola.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m. at Weaverland Mennonite Church, 210 Weaverland Valley Rd., East Earl, PA 17519 with Leon Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday, Jan. 11, at the Church from 5:30-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:30-10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christian Aid Ministries, PO Box 360, Berlin, OH 44610.
